David notes that Thomas Frank had a column in yesterday's The Wall Street Journal, and will be a weekly columnist there from now on. That's really, really weird, a bit like The Weekly Standard letting Rashid Khalidi write a monthly editorial. But it serves everyone's interests. It lets The Journal brandish a "real" lefty, but one who their readership will find it easy to dismiss (Frank isn't an economist, which is the only type of lefty who might get a hearing from their audience). For his part, Frank gets to speak directly to the nation's business elite, and gets to write a weekly column. And the rest of us get to read Frank every week, link to him, and continue ignoring the WSJ's editorial page. Good on ya, Murdoch.
