BARGAIN HUNTING. A few weeks ago, I worried whether Democrats would come through on Medicare Prescription Drug bargaining once in office, given the implacable opposition of Big Pharma. I needn't have fretted. Legislation directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate down Medicare drug prices passed the House today with a bipartisan majority of 255 votes. Now it goes to the Senate, and then to Bush, who's threatening a veto. For a quick overview of why this bill matters, check out this older post of mine. --Ezra Klein
