I agree with Kevin that we could use more reporting on other country's health care systems. But what I'd really like to see is more anecdotal reportage. There's actually plenty of macro-level data about spending patterns and mortality and disease incidence and cost containment. What we need are books and narrative articles documenting what the experience of these systems is like. Anecdotes, obviously, have their failings and flaws, but at this point, the data all exists, it's just too hard for voters and elites alike to conceive of medical care in this oft-maligned nations from charts alone.
