I don't know why things like this aren't bigger scandals than they are. Dana Milbank wanted to write an article about Barack Obama's arrogance. He found a quote that, on first glance, would work really well. Except for the fact that the middle of the quote contained the line, "It has become increasingly clear in my travel, the campaign, that the crowds, the enthusiasm, 200,000 people in Berlin, is not about me at all." So Milbank just doctored the quote, deleted the offending line. I work as a professional journalist at a political magazine. I feel like that sort of thing would get me fired.
