My defense of George W. Bush notwithstanding, it's hard to argue with this from SEK:
According to the man himself, then, Bush placed more importance on whether people perceived him to be racist than what happened to actual black people in the city of New Orleans.
In short, he proved Kanye right.
Yes and no -- Bush's answer that being called a racist was the worst moment of his presidency evinced a callousness toward everyone from the victims of the 9/11 attacks to Iraq War dead. To say he doesn't care about black people in particular is to imply an animus that is at least somewhat active.
