As it's April 15th, todays chart of the day is going to have to be tax related. And where better to start than with a nice breakdown of where your taxes are going, courtesy of the fine folks at CBPP:CBPP explains the data further, but in a broad way, that's the size of it: Pensions, health care, and defense all eat up roughly equal amounts of the budget (and the majority of defense spending was not Iraq or Afghanistan related -- those ventures cost a "mere" $125 billion in 2007). Payment on the debt ate up about $237 billion. Now, I'm not against deficit spending per se. But it's not clear to me that taking out loans to finance a senseless war was really the best use of our resources....
