Over at HuffPo, Dave Roberts has the cousin post to my article on universal health reform, explaining what obstacles stand in the way of serious climate change legislation. I tend to be quite pessimistic on all this, as the science behind climate change suggests, to me, that the situation will become fairly irreversible long before the actual shifts in the weather have exacted enough pain to force action. In health care, there's at least the uninsured and cost pressures providing immediate feedback. With climate change, the issue still feels theoretical for most people, as aside from the occasional attribution of a very hot day to global warming, they're not noticing much in the way of changes or pain. The closest they're coming is paying more for gas at the ump, but what they want to do is make that price come down, while those worried about global warming actually want to bring it up.
