THE COMPROMISE IS COMING. "Gen. David H. Petraeus wants to keep heightened troop levels in Iraq well into next year," reports the New York Times, "but could accept the pullback of one brigade in January." So that's how the administration is planning to compromise: They will support withdrawal for one small portion of the surge. Democrats, presumably, will greet this with glee and relief. --Ezra Klein
