In what sounds like good news, the U.S Sentencing Commission, which sets guidelines for federal prisons, is meeting today to consider more lenient sentencing for crack cocaine, and is even considering making the policy retroactive. If they vote to do so, about 19,500 inmates will see their sentences reduced by an average of 27 months each, allowing them to go home to their families and their communities. I'm not going to spend a huge amount of time going through why the sentencing for crack is so unjust, and will instead just link interested folks here. It's really a scandal,
