It's a little disconcerting to watch Reason's resident libertine Nick Gillespie lamenting Patrick Kennedy's ability to get addicted to prescription meds, harmlessly total his car, and nevertheless seem a shoe-in for reelection. For someone so totally committed to legalizing drugs, he's sure not very forgiving of those kindly demonstrating what such a society would look like.
And to be clear, I could care less whether Kennedy gobbled up some Ambien before homing in on a cement divider. The guy's got his problems, but so long as he's a) seeking treatment and b) representing his constituents effectively, it's none of my business. Ted Kennedy, for his part, may appreciate the sauce, but you'll not find a more effective politician in the country.
