Michael Ruhlman, one of my favorite food writers, comes out for Obama. The endorsement itself is a good example of the ways in which people justify their voting preferences with whatever tools the campaigns have offered. Queried in 2006, I don't think many liberals would have said that taxes should be a particularly central issue in this election. But in the past few weeks, the Obama campaign has made their tax cut the primary policy argument of their campaign. And sure enough, Ruhlman says, "we do know that Obama's stances on all important issues, including his not raising taxes on the vast majority of Americans, are indeed intended to reverse the appalling course set by the Bush administration." Was the Bush administration really so quick to raise taxes on folks? Meanwhile, plenty of Republicans who voted against John Kerry for being a flip-flopper will vote for John McCain because he's a maverick. And so it goes.
