DON'T CRY OVER STUPID QUESTIONS. Part of what I don't like about the "gallon of milk" test is that I'm not sure folks are terribly cognizant of what size milk cartons they actually buy. "Gallons" are always mentioned and human beings like round numbers, so it wouldn't be terribly hard to assume, particularly when put on the spot, that the jug we tend to purchase and that's most common in supermarkets is a gallon, when it's actuallya half gallon. So while Giuliani wrongly guessed that a gallon of milk is going for $1.50, a half-gallon, which I could easily believe he was thinking of, retails for $1.99 at the DC Safeway. --Ezra Klein
