Every time I've dipped into commentary surrounding Sudan and Darfur, I've been struck by how divided the community seemed. Some termed it genocide, some termed it a civil war. Some wanted armed intervention, some said that would worsen the violence. Some wanted divestment, some said divestment wold hurt those who most needed help. Some celebrated the 2006 North-South peace agreement, some said it accelerated the violence Some blame Khartoum, some blame intransigence on the part of rebel groups.
So, basically, I'm confused. And after reading this debate between Alexander De Waal and John Prendergast, I'm still confused. But at least I'm a little more certain as to what I'm confused about. And also, I now know that De Waal and Prendergast hate each other ("Most of your response is an exercise in pyromania of straw men. But although careless with both facts and logic, it deserves a response."). So that's useful.
