In an outbreak of what seems like sanity, a Fox News poll (via The Washington Independent) shows that less than half of Americans now support expanding offshore drilling now that they've seen what it can do. As Aaron Wiener points out, this comes at the same time that Sen. Lindsey Graham, a key vote, is opposing the climate bill.
How strong an impression this makes on Americans' minds will depend a great deal on how horrible the full scope of the disaster turns out to be. That, in turn, will influence how series Americans are about curbing their use of fossil-fuel dependent energy rather than expanding offshore drilling sites. What's less certain is how long this declining support for drilling for oil at all costs is going to last.
