As the Washington Post points out, there are two primaries tonight, and the Democrats have been campaigning in both states, and Clinton has been vigorously arguing that she's a better nominee than Obama, and Obama has been strongly suggesting that no, in fact, he's the better nominee. But they've not been bashing each other's head in, and most of their fire -- Clinton's included -- has been focused on John McCain. Much better. Indeed, it's an interesting counterfactual to think through what would've happened if Clinton had assessed the Wright and Bittergate problems Obama was having, left them to the press to deal with, and doubled down on her attacks on McCain. In other words, make herself look like a strong general election nominee at the exact moment Obama looked weak. It's obviously not clear that it would've been enough, or anywhere near it, but who knows?
