Via Cara at Feministe Dr. LeRoy Carhart has announced he will begin performing late-term abortions, filling the gap left with Dr. Tiller's murder and the closing of his clinic.
Dr. LeRoy Carhart declined to discuss his plans in detail during a telephone interview with The Associated Press, but insisted "there will be a place in Kansas for the later second- and the medically indicated third-trimester patients very soon."
"I just think that until everything is in place, it's something that doesn't need to be talked about" in detail, Carhart said a day after Tiller's family announced his Wichita clinic was permanently shutting its doors.
It's not the first time Carhart has stepped up for reproductive health. He is the Carhart of Gonzales v. Carhart, the Supreme Court case challenging the ban on "partial birth abortion."
Ann interviewed Carhart in 2007 over his battles with anti-choice activists who tried to shutter his practice by going after the building he occupies.
