The most compelling moment of Rep. Peter King's hearings on domestic radicalization so far has been the testimony of Rep. Keith Ellison, who broke down in tears while discussing the death of Mohammed Salman Hamdani, an NYPD officer who died while responding to the 9/11 attacks. Zaid Jilani posted the video:
Ellison's testimony was poignant because it refuted the broad premise of King's hearings -- as well as King's months-long crusade to prevent a Muslim community center from being built near ground zero. To the extent that both are predicated on the idea that Muslims, broadly speaking, are somehow less American than everyone else, I'm not sure there could have been a more moving counterpoint.
