Not only are exit numbers, as Matt points out, inaccurate till the votes are counted and they can be properly weighed, but they're confusing. This morning on C-SPAN, I got a call from a woman asking how they could give West Virginia to Huckabee when there were no precincts reporting -- doesn't that prove the vote is rigged? Of course, I'm a political professional, and so I know they have pollsters standing outside all day plugging data into a secret formula that they use to inform their broadcasting, even as they only show official vote totals on the screen. But I imagine most people don't know that, and it makes for a somewhat odd broadcast. They should either show their exit poll data or stop using it, but this systems of using one set of secret numbers and showing another set of totally different numbers is silly.
