It's worth noting that Barack Obama is significantly less wealthy than the other candidates, and what money he does have was fairly recently acquired through book deals and the like. Possibly more to the point, he's lived and worked in mixed income neighborhoods fairly recently. John McCain probably hasn't encountered economic diversity since he was in the military, and Clinton hasn't lived among the white working class since, at best, Arkansas.
