FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT. The New Republic's James Kirchick, who knows what battles need fighting, valiantly takes on actress Julie Christie for a quote in The New Yorker about the movie "The Lives of Others" that might not have meant what Kirchick thinks it meant. (If, for example, I sometimes wearily say "oh, they gave another Oscar to a documentary about how Nazis were bad," that doesn't mean I don't think Nazis are bad.) Also, pace Kirchick, it would indeed be a stretch to say that "'The Lives of Others' is one of the best films ever made." That's not to say it wasn't quite good! Rob actually made a compelling critique of the film a while back.
