Or at least it didn't here. Despite the enormous relief of the ceasefire agreement, it's hard to stave off a bit of depression over the outcome. Israel lost, as they had exactly no objectives they could ever win. Hundreds of thousands of innocent Lebanese were driven from their homes and probably radicalized. And Hezbollah's reputation was burnished and shined -- they stood up to the mighty IDF and never faltered. Going forward, Israel will now suffer the same loss of assumed power as did America in Iraq. Previously, the assumption of Israel's vast deterrence capabilities, forged in the defensive wars of the 60's and 70's, was as powerful a weapon as the country possessed. What a shame they chose to sacrifice such a potent weapon with this useless overreach.
