If you tally up the votes cast on Super Tuesday it turns out that Obama and Clinton...almost tied. Clinton got 50.2 percent, Obama got 49.8 percent. And, as a result of apportionment folrmulas, Obama came out with slightly more delegates, taking home between 840 to 849, as compared to Clinton's 829 to 839. That makes yesterday a win for him. This is all the more true because the next few states favor Obama -- Virginia, Maryland, DC, Louisiana, and so forth should break for him. The big prizes coming up are Pennsylvania, Texas, and Ohio, and I don't really know how they'll come down, but it's not obvious to me that Texas favors Clinton (though Rendell and Strickland, the governors of Pennsylvania and Ohio, have endorsed her). So, in the final analysis, Obama pulls out a close win, and we move onto the next set. On the other side, McCain really does seem to have landed his knockout punch, which is presumably why his speech last night was so conciliatory.
