In his ongoing argument with Fox News' Chris Wallace, Jon Stewart gets to the heart of Fox's game:
It really isn't so much about Fox as it is about conservatives in general when they talk about the media. Fox just happens to be the most visible conservative media outlet, and one where the sins of the rest of the media are a constant topic of discussion. Because they don't really care very much about journalism as anything more than a force either favoring or disfavoring their political agenda, they can freely redefine "objectivity." As Stewart says, they always win: When they criticize the media for being liberal, they're illuminating the truth that the powers that be don't want Americans to hear. But if you criticize them for the absurd degrees their own political slant reaches, your criticism is itself proof that they're right about the media and that they are the oppressed victims.
