The two parties reportedly agreed ahead of time to use an imam and Islamic Law to resolve any potential differences through arbitration.Right. So the only way the judge could have "imposed" Sharia is if he went back in time knowing there would be a dispute in the future, and forced the two parties to agree to a contract drawn up according to Islamic law.
What conservatives are actually demanding here is that the judge toss out the agreed upon contract and impose his own view of how the case should be decided. Now if the people freaking out about this didn't hate and fear Muslims so much, they'd be aware of what a crazy precedent this would set.
