Bet you weren't expecting to call up the blog this morning and see Gargamel staring back at you.
Peter Suderman explains how to name a villain:Apparently, Jeff Daniels — or his voice, anyway — is in the film, playing someone named Zartog, which indicates a fealty to the classic villain naming scheme in which any combination of Zs, Gs, Rs, and Ks can be combined with a couple of vowels and a few additional consonants to produce a menacing sounding name. (Don’t believe me? Try it: Zuurgaz, Kazog, Koorgaz, Kargzoz — the all-time winner, obviously, is Gargamel.)I gave it a shot and came up with Zagrak, the fearsome lord of Darkness. I'd add, though, that "X" is a powerful supervillain consonant as well. Just ask Zagrak's eviler twin, Xagrak.Image used under a Creative Commons license from JP Garnham.
