Newt Gingrich will not be president of the United States. It is very likely that his inevitable failure will lead him not to seek the Republican nomination in 2012 in the first place. Some observers seem to disagree, but as Alex Pareene notes, what's remarkable is the gullibility of Newt's fan base in the press. Let's look at the ABC story that's causing the latest bout of silliness:
Confidants close to the former House speaker say he will announce his intention to form a presidential exploratory committee before on Thursday in Atlanta.
Wow, he's announcing his intention to consider the possibility of running for president? No loopholes there! Somehow, I'm still inclined to think that Newt will conclude his "exploration" by determining that he needs to spend more time with his family, or perhaps the family of one of his current interns. Either way, it's pretty much a moot point, because he's about as likely to win the Republican nomination as Morry Taylor.
