The Politico has a nice mini-profile of Nancy Pelosi, and the ways in which she sees, and conducts, her work. The big takeaway is the centrality of global warming to her understanding of her job -- which is the sort of thing that should remind liberals how important her presence in the House leadership is. During the Bush years, Congress has exhibited all the fight and assertiveness of a badly abused pet, so it's easy to forget that legislation can start in the House and end with the president, rather than starting with the president and ending with the president. Pelosi gets that, and she's certainly suggesting that if Obama decides not to act on these issues, she'll force his hand.Photo used under a Creative Commons license from Orin.
