Apparently, dental coverage is spreading through to new health care plans under the preventive rubric: For reasons we don't quite understand (though most think it has to do with inflammation), gum disease is linked with heart disease, diabetes, pre-term births, and quite a few other ailments that are, in the aggregate, a whole lot costlier than fixing a cavity. So more and more companies are adding dental coverage to their plans. Of course, this neat trend only applies if you work for one of these companies. If you're one of the millions and millions of Americans who don't, then we sincerely hope you're immune from this inflammation effect, and that your gross gums don't end up costing us taxpayers very much when you stumble into the ER with chest pains.
