THE HOLBROOKE SCHOOL. To add to Ezra's item on John Edwards' foreign policy advisors, I think it's fair to say that Derek Chollet is definitely of the Holbrookian school that Tom Edsall identifies with Sen. Hillary Clinton, in that Derek used to work as a speechwriter for Holbrooke and also helped him write a book. From his bio:
Derek Chollet is a Senior Fellow at The Center for a New American Security (CNAS). He is also a non-resident fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Global Economy and Development Program and an adjunct associate professor at Georgetown University. Previously, he was foreign policy adviser to Senator John Edwards (D-N.C.), both on his legislative staff and during the 2004 Kerry/Edwards presidential campaign. During the Clinton administration, he served in the U.S. State Department in several capacities, including Chief Speechwriter for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke and Special Adviser to Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott. He has also assisted former Secretaries of State James A. Baker III and Warren Christopher with the research and writing of their memoirs, Holbrooke with his book on the Dayton peace process in Bosnia, and Talbott with his book on U.S.-Russian relations during the 1990s. He has been a Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin and a visiting scholar and adjunct professor at The George Washington University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of the Woodrow Wilson House and the Truman National Security Project.CNAS, where Derek now works, is widely considered a sort of Clinton administration in waiting, though I'm not sure that this view is really accurate, as the group is bi-partisan, and also contains a couple of different intra-Democratic Party factions. The A.P. had a nice round-up on the foreign policy advisors of the different candidates earlier this week, as well.
