Steve M. has a suggestion for Howard Dean about what could be put in place of the proposed Islamic community center near Ground Zero:
Hey, Howard Dean: if Cordoba House is "a real affront to people who lost their lives" on 9/11, what should we put on the site instead?
I have an idea I think you, in particular, might like and consider non-offensive: how about a 13-story pickup truck with a Confederate flag in it?
What, you're not offended by the Confederate flag are you? Stop being so sensitive. Islam is a religion that celebrates violence, hatred, and bigotry, while the Confederate flag merely stands for state's rights and Southern heritage.
Just as a minor point, the broader "sensitivity" gap between those offended by the mere presence of American Muslims near Ground Zero but who don't think there's anything wrong with states flying the battle flag of people who fought against their own country for the right to own black people as property is enormous. Of course, if we were applying the same absurd standard of "sensitivity" to slavery that the Park 51 Project's opponents are applying to Ground Zero, there wouldn't be any white people living in the American South. It would be too raw, too real. It would stab the heart.
