Look, Clinton can say it was a vote for diplomacy all day long, but if the bombers hit Iran, that won't make it true. And while co-sponsorship is great, the Webb amendment is not yet the law of the land. At this point I don't think it's likely that we're going to engage in an unprovoked military strike on Iran, given that generals are trying to figure out how to stop it, but increasing Bush's military authority by any amount is just a bad idea. Update: And look! Here's Cheney rattling the saber again. Awesome!
Getting beyond the immediacy of the 2008 elections, America really ought to think about the trend to put more and more power into the executive branch. The last seven years should teach us as much.
