Like Chris, I can't get excited about the fact that McCain wears $520 Ferragamo loafers. I can't be bothered to make this the point of every blog post for the next two weeks, or make jokes about how his cashmere dress socks only cost $212. But in case hardier souls than I want to take up the torch, John McCain wears $520 loafers. Meanwhile, he admits he doesn't know much about economics. That may be true on a policy level, but it gives McCain too little credit as an individual: The guy married an heiress and now buys shoes that cost more than the monthly rent of a small apartment in a mid-sized city. He knew enough to do that. Update: Right! I totally forgot YearlyKos2007, where Matt decided to pair his suit with some basketball sneakers, which Obama promptly -- and, it seemed, sincerely -- complimented, making him the elections true footwear populist.
