Over at the Motherblog we've got Rick Perlstein doing a quick tour of duty, and he's offered up a literary mixtape from his new book Nixonland. It's fascinating stuff, a good reminder of how fractious and violent and anxious the 60s were. In retrospect, folks tend to represent the era with lots of colors and paeans to a moment when people, like, cared, man. And they did care. But they were also beating the shit out of each other and occasionally moving into outright murder.
