Earlier tonight, Jeff Toobin was detailing Elizabeth's Dole's troubles in North Carolina, which largely amount to her being a lazy senator who has made no legislative impact and has no constituent service. Which has aways struck me as weird. Dole didn't exactly have a reputation as a layabout. She ran the Red Cross, served as Reagan;s Secretary of Transportation, as Bush's Secretary of Labor, and held a variety of other bureaucratic spots. So why'd she make for such a lazy, ineffective Senator? In any case, it doesn't matter now. The networks are calling it for Kay Hagan. Dole is out.
