Hillary Clinton made one of the final stops of her campaign season last night at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. In 2004, John Kerry became the first Democrat in 40 years to win Fairfax County, an affluent area in the second ring of suburbs outside Washington, D.C. The faces in the crowd at the rally illustrate the region's burgeoning diversity; an influx of Asian and Hispanic immigrants have helped turn the region blue. A major goal of the Obama campaign is to increase voter turnout in this area, particularly among first-timers, many of whom are immigrants or college students. Gregory Thompson, president of GMU Students for Obama, said the club had registered over 2,000 students and would give them rides to the polls.
