Today President Bush, instead of commemorating May Day, repeated the pattern he established on May 1, 2001, by declaring today "Law Day." May 1, 2002 and May 1, 2003 were no different, although he did mix it up a bit in on April 30, 2004 by simultaneously declaring May 1 "Loyalty Day."
So Bush hates labor. Not big news. But the irony declaring Law Day...I'll let him speak for himself:
The American legal system is central to protecting the rights and freedoms our Nation holds dear. The theme of this year's Law Day, "The Rule of Law: Foundation for Communities of Opportunity and Equity," recognizes the fundamental role that the rule of law plays in preserving liberty in our Nation and in all free societies.
Pretty much summarizes the Bush years, doesn't it?
UPDATE: Bush probably won't remind us of his "Mission Accomplished" moment, either, which occurred five years ago today.
