- The radicalization of the Republican party has consequences beyond fringe candidates. There are policy outcomes, like Lindsey Graham surveying the Republican base and concluding that the party should vociferously oppose any effort to put a price on carbon emissions. Not that this lets Graham off the hook.
- "The title [Milton Friedman's Free to Choose] says a lot. If we are free to make our own choices, we prosper." That's John Stossel attempting to make an argument in Reason. Actually, this says a lot about libertarians' capacity for simplicity. Want prosperity? Just add freedom -- and presto!
- Speaking of libertarians, I don't know why they're surprised that Rand Paul isn't a purist. His political philosophy more closely resembles what the Constitution Party advocates -- i.e. his belief in limited government is highly selective.
- Remainders: Given BP's indifference to the destruction they've caused, I'm okay with fining them into nonexistence; the only thing to remember about John McCain is that he absolutely loves war; and debating Bill Clinton's post-1994 "shift to the center."
