- That's the big story today. Obama is for real. He really can get supporters out. He really did win by a very convincing margin in a race everyone expected to be a dead heat. He really can outdo two of the most impressive candidates for the presidency that I can remember. See his breathtaking victory speech here. As others have said, we may have problems with what he's said or the details of his plans, but everyone's human and it's hard not to be moved by a historic moment like this (not that I'm trying). David Roberts has more thoughts on the subject over at Gristmill.
- So, if you're Hillary Clinton, what do you do? You adopt an eight point plan to win New Hampshire of course! Some of it is pretty banal, some of it is kinda unfortunate (claim Iowa is biased against women? really?), and some is sensible (run against McCain). It also seems we'll see some tougher attacks on Obama, though this seems pretty risky to me. After all, it was Clinton's criticism's of Obama a few weeks ago that started his surge in the polls.
- Also see this account of her first appearance in New Hampshire today. Apparently the plan is to target young voters which seems pretty hopeless to me.
- Meanwhile, Huckabee gave Mitt Romney a Huckabeatdown. But it's still true that nobody has any idea who'll win the Republican nomination. If McCain wins New Hampshire can he beat Huckabee in South Carolina? Will independents vote for Obama and thereby give Romney the win in NH? I'm rooting for Fred Thompson to wake up and seize the conservative mantle from Romney (yes, I know that's not going to happen).
- Marc Ambinder, as usual, has the scoop on what McCain and Romney are planning for the next five days.
- Meanwhile, Huckabee is, I think, going to suffer from a huge lack of media attention in the next week as coverage focuses on the battle for first in New Hampshire. Currently his name isn't mentioned on the front page of the Politico or the New York Times.
