The New York Times reported today that documentary filmmaker and photographer Tim Hetherington was killed in the besieged city of Misurata, Libya. He was working with three other photographers when they were hit with a rocket-propelled grenade. Two of the photographers, Chris Hondros and Guy Martin, are currently hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Hetherington's 2010 film Restrepo earned him an Oscar nomination for best director and had been praised for its intimate examination of modern warfare. Above is the photo, "Battle Company" he shot in the Restrepo bunker in eastern Afghanistan while documenting American soldiers on the front lines.
