Eric Cantor, writing in the National Review, April 2007, about Nancy Pelosi's visit to Syria:
Several leading legal authorities have made the case that her recent diplomatic overtures ran afoul of the Logan Act, which makes it a felony for any American “without authority of the United States” to communicate with a foreign government to influence that government's behavior on any disputes with the United States.
Eric Cantor, visiting Israel, August 2009, criticizing the Obama administration's opposition to the forced evictions of Palestinians from East Jerusalem, among other things:
Cantor and others supported Israel's handling of the eviction of two Arab families from a house in east Jerusalem earlier this week, a move criticized by the European Union and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"I don't think we, in America, would want another country telling us how to implement and execute our laws," Cantor said.
I guess the Logan Act ain't what it used to be. Read Matt Duss' reaction here.
