SO MAYBE HE'S NOT RESIGNING. You knew there was something odd about Sen. Larry Craig's resignation announcement, but couldn't quite put your finger on it, right? That's because when public figures announce their resignations from a public post, they usually do so in definite terms, as in, "I will resign my office, effective such-and-such-a-date." Today brings news that, in his Saturday announcement, Sen. Craig didn't mean exactly what you thought he did. Sen. Craig did not so much announce his resignation, but his "intention" to resign. It was a difference pounced on last weekend by Sen. Arlen Specter, who urged, during his appearance on FOX News Sunday, that Craig not resign his seat, and instead fight to reverse the guilty plea he had entered in response to a disorderly conduct charge stemming from his alleged attempt to make a hook-up with an undercover police officer in a Minneapolis men's room. Specter, of course, has long used tough rhetoric and an ostensibly moderate stance to torment players of all political stripes, not least of them, his Republican colleagues, who seem to very badly want Craig to get lost before election time. In related news, FOX News has titled its video of my friend, Mike Rogers of blogActive discussing the Craig scandal "Witch Hunt?" Mike has successfully "outed" several anti-gay activists and politicians, such as Craig. I'm not big on mucking around in people's private lives, but if you're living "the life" on the down-low while making life miserable for those who choose to live in the light, well, you're inviting some serious karma. --Adele M.
