John McCain enters the final stage of abuse, lamenting the negative tone of the campaign. This comes after the previous stage of abuse, in which McCain blamed Obama for refusing to do town hall appearances with him. He's only doing it because he loves you America. Don't. Make. Him. Do. It. Again.
One of the most public of McCain's apologies was the pageantry a few years back when McCain apologized for his support of flying the Confederate Flag in South Carolina. He didn't apologize for having a white supremacist running his South Carolina campaign, though. Still, people adored him for it. This kind of thing is something of a pattern with McCain.
Will the traumatized pundits take him back? Can they stay mad at McCain? Joe Klein says he's through, but with the McCain campaign working the ref to draw an equivalence between Obama's dishonest immigration ads and the incessant drumbeat of lies from the McCain campaign, others might decide there's always time for a little Marvin Gaye.
