On his Center for Moral Clarity web site a couple of weeks ago, John McCain "spiritual guide" and self-described Christocrat Rod Parsley wrote:
Democrat Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. and Republican John Sidney McCain III are cruising along in their bids to win their respective party's nomination for President of the United States. Tuesday night's results from the Wisconsin Primary and the Hawaii Caucuses showed Obama with sizable victories over Hillary Clinton. Meanwhile, on the Republican side, McCain used a late-evening speech in Columbus, Ohio, to accept his victories in the Wisconsin and Washington primaries.
What, no middle name for Clinton, the only candidate who actually does routinely use her middle name?
Parsley later urged his followers to go out and vote in Ohio's primary:
We're not in the habit of threatening our readers and we won't start today. There are, however, consequences if you do not participate in Tuesday's primary election: believe it or not, without your vote, our democracy will become a little less Christian, a little less good.
Without your influence on such things as the presidential, congressional and Ohio General Assembly primaries, God's values will have less representation in the sea of pubic opinion. What about that local liquor option in your ward? What about that local school levy or the renewal for funding the county's department of mental retardation and developmental disabilities? Your community needs your Christian values to help provide moral clarity in public matters.
Ah, moral clarity, the same phrase McCain himself used three times in a 2002 speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee: "No great nation can abandon the obligations of moral clarity for the convenience of situational ethics.'' For the Senator who opposed the Bush tax cuts before he wanted to make them permanent, who opposed torture but wouldn't vote to ban it, who crusades against big money in politics except when he's invited to fly on a corporate jet, it has a certain ring to it, doesn't it?
