I'm with Paul Boutin in being relatively unimpressed with the new, superthin, Apple Air notebook. It is, to be sure, very sexy, and very thin, and very light. But I I'm 5'11, and weigh 186 pounds. Whether my laptop is three pounds or four pounds just doesn't matter that much. The obsessive desire to make electronics into choking hazards seems a bit misguided to me. Like Boutin, I'm much more impressed with my Verizon gadget that lets me access wireless internet almost anywhere in the country. Making that standard and internal, possibly by jacking into the AT&T network Apple already contracts with, would have been a much bigger leap than simply making the computer a bit smaller. Laptops are already pretty small. What I need now is not for them to be easier to carry, but more useful when I get there.
