NEW BLOG: FREEDOM'S POWER. Prospect co-founder and co-editor (not to mention Princeton sociologist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author) Paul Starr has written a new book, to be published in March, called Freedom's Power: The True Force of Liberalism, which concerns, in Paul's words, "how a liberal society and liberal politics create power -- how they generate the capacity to realize the aims of liberty, justice, and security." (See some early comments on the book by Bill Moyers here.) Working on Freedom's Power has prompted Paul to launch a website and blog of the same name, one concerned not only with arguments made directly in the book but with engagement in the day-to-day public debate. (Most recently, see his retort to Matt Continetti's arguments about the two party's foreign policy frameworks.)
I can attest that Paul's book is a remarkable achievement -- one that couldn't be more timely, as we watch the most recent manifestation of American conservative nostrums about power fall to pieces both at home and abroad -- and his site promises to offer still more.
