Twas fun. if you missed it, it's replaying throughout the day. If you miss that, it'll be up on their site for streaming within the week. The actual format was a breath of fresh air: 45 minutes of simple discussion, no screaming adversaries, no gotcha quotes, just an attempt to talk through the issues of the day. Callers focused on my support and enthusiasm for the welfare state, allowing lots of my health wonkery to slip through the airwaves. At the end, Steve Scully, the host, remarked how few questions there were about Gore. True that. Nor were there any about Hillary, or McCain, Romney. It was, to my surprise, a policy discussion, focused on thorny issues of ideology and government practice, and given the primacy of personality and the dominance of horserace coverage, that was deeply satisfying to engage in. All in all, worth the 5:30am wake-up call, at least for me.
