It really is remarkable that Dan Savage has managed to draw the attention and participation of the president in his "It Gets Better" anti-homophobic-bullying project:
As Steve Benen writes, "If even just one young person who's feeling isolated and who's struggling right now sees President Obama's video and feels a little more hopeful about his or her future, then this will have been well worth it." I think the place where this message is likely to do the most good, though, is among people who are inclined to support the president on other matters but see homosexuality as wrong or something to be ashamed of.
This also won't, and shouldn't, quiet the administration's critics among the LGBT-rights movement. But it may remind a few of those apathetic young voters why they voted in 2008.
