Michael Davis, the Dallas city planner and urban development blogger at Dallas Progress, has been named to Barack Obama's Urban Policy Committee. Another member is Udai Tambar, a former policy director to Newark Mayor Cory Booker. I'll keep on the lookout as Obama appoints more urban policy advisers. He's planning on creating a White House Office on Urban Policy "to ensure that all federal dollars targeted to urban areas are effectively spent on the highest-impact programs. The Director of Urban Policy will report directly to the president and coordinate all federal urban programs." Obama's specific proposals are a mix of more federal spending, Clinton-style tax credits, and public-private partnerships. Here's the full plan.
John McCain, on the other hand, doesn't have an urban policy plan.
