Adam wrote about the efforts of the Michigan GOP to suppress voting by challenging the legitimacy of people voting if their home has been foreclosed, a practice known as voter "caging." Now, the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee have filed suit in Federal Court seeking an injunction against the Michigan GOP that would prevent this action. Bob Bauer, the Obama campaign's lawyer, said on a conference call today that a voter whose home is on a foreclosure list can still be a legal resident, still could continue to own their home, and has a grace period for voting from their own home within 60 days of an election. Bauer also noticed that the aggressive challenges of GOP operatives results in people being pulled from lines in the polling place for questioning, making it difficult for everyone to vote. He also reported information about possible caging operations in Ohio.
"We will act to protect the voters, and we will act aggressively," Bauer said.
