By Neil the Ethical Werewolf Greg Sargent highlights the words coming out of Schumer's mouth today, and they're reasonably good. But I've always wondered about the idiom that Schumer begins his statement with: "The chickens are coming home to roost." Is there actually something bad that happens when fowl return home for purposes of roosting? The idiom is always used to indicate a bad consequence of someone's behavior. One would think that the return of livestock would be a positive event. I guess I'm happy that the chickens involved are free-range, unlike their unfortunate factory-farmed cousins who are trapped in cages too small to turn around or spread their wings.
